NMU women golfers finish fifth at GLIACs, on bubble for NCAA Regionals

AUGUSTA — The Northern Michigan University women’s golf team had a strong performance last weekend as it took fifth overall at the GLIAC Championships.

Junior Caro Els finished fifth overall after shooting a 152, while senior Karissa Guthrie took 14th place with a 159. Seniors Haley Hewer (165) and Baylee Dunmire (167) both finished in the top 40, while freshman Abigail Boozer took 46th (172).

The Wildcats are currently awaiting notice if they will compete in the East Regional of the NCAA Championships. NMU is ranked fifth overall in the region.

NMU men have two finish in top 10

At Battle Creek, seniors Austin Elsner and Owen Beyer both placed in the top 10 at the GLIAC Championships with Elsner taking third overall after shooting a 143 and Beyer tying for 10th with a 149.

Juniors Kurtis Fontinha (27th) and Chris Black (tied for 39th) both finished in the top 40 with the former shooting a 156 and the latter a 160. Finally, senior Logan Haight took 52nd with a 168.
