CANTON, Ohio — Caro Els again led the Northern Michigan University women’s golf team at a tournament here over the weekend.

The Wildcats junior was fourth overall as NMU finished third at the Cav Classic hosted by Walsh University on Saturday and Sunday at Glenmoor Country Club.

Els, who made the all-tournament team at the NC4K College Classic in Blacklick, Ohio, the previous weekend, put together rounds of 74 and 76 for 150, just two strokes behind the low shooter of the weekend, Makenzie Torres of team champion Findlay, who shot 71-77–148. Two other golfers each had 149.

Findlay totaled 605, runner-up Grand Valley State 609 and NMU 311-315–626. Wayne State was fourth with 642 and Davenport fifth with 650. Also in the 15-school field was current GLIAC members Saginaw Valley State, Ferris State and Ashland and former GLIAC schools Mercyhurst, Walsh and Gannon.

Second among Northern golfers was senior Karissa Guthrie, who tied for ninth with 74-80–154. She was followed by senior teammate Haley Hewer, 18th with 80-79–159; freshman Abigail Boozer, 22nd with 83-80–163; and senior Baylee Dunmire, 33rd with 84-84–168.

The Wildcats return to action at the GLIAC Championships in downstate Augusta, located between Kalamazoo and Battle Creek, at Gull Lake Golf Course from Friday through Sunday.
