Northern Michigan University Wildcats’ men’s basketball player Isaiah Johnson named All-Midwest Region

MARQUETTE — Northern Michigan University’s Isaiah Johnson was named to the Men’s Basketball All-Midwest Region Team by the NCAA Division II Conference Commissioners Association.

The senior guard was named Second Team All-Midwest Region after leading the GLIAC in scoring with a 20.6 points-per-game average.

Making the All-GLIAC First Team for the second straight year, Johnson made 46 percent of his shots from the field, including 39 percent of 3-pointers.

Johnson also led the league in free throws, making 5.3 per game, while averaging 5.9 rebounds and 1.4 assists.

During the 2018-19 season, he posted a career-high 33 points vs. Lewis, while scoring 31 vs. Saginaw Valley State and 30 at Ashland. In the Wildcats’ road win in the GLIAC Tournament quarterfinals at Ferris State, he had 29.

He also became the 32nd player in school history to score 1,000 points in his career, finishing with 1,569, seventh all-time at NMU.

Northern finished the past season at 17-12 and reached the GLIAC Tournament semifinals.
