NMU track and field finishes eighth at GVSU Big Meet

ALLENDALE — The Northern Michigan University track and field team competed at the Grand Valley State University Big Meet over the weekend and finished eighth overall, ahead of eight Division I programs including Western Michigan and Marquette.

The Wildcats also had three NCAA provisionals and one individual win as Michelle Juergen took first place in the long jump Friday. She also took third in the high jump and earned NCAA provisionals in both events.

NMU senior and Marquette Senior High School alum Shayla Huebner earned a provisional time in the 800 meter run Friday (2:11.93) and finished 10th overall. Teammate and fellow former Redette Izzie Peterson took 13th in the 200 dash.

On Saturday, Juergen finished second in the triple jump and sophomore Dunja Drobac took eighth.

The Wildcats will compete in the Titan Challenge Saturday at Wisconsin-Oskosh
