Jeffers icers rally late to defeat Negaunee Miners, 4-2

HOUGHTON — Jeffers broke a 1-1 tie in the third period with three straight goals en route to a 4-2 high school hockey victory on Thursday night over Negaunee.

The Miners got on the board first with a goal from Jack Mattias just 3:31 in. Garrett Mann and Chad Pohlman earned assists on the play.

The Jets needed nearly the entire first period to answer, but did with 2:01 left when Brandon Lavigne found the net.

The teams traded chances into the third with neither able to cash in until Jeffers’ Dylan Nettell found the net at 4:28 on a power play.

Then 5:21 later, Matthew Halonen struck on another Jets power play.

Elias Rajala put the Jets up 4-1 with an even-strength marker at 11:02, while the Miners got back within two with 2:41 left in regulation when Garrett Mann found the net as Mattias assisted.

The Jets’ Evan Pietila made 12 saves to earn the win. Nolan Corwin stopped 34 shots for the Miners.
