QCPFC pitcher Kathy Gischia helps own cause at plate in Iron Range Women’s Softball League

ISHPEMING — Winning pitcher Kathy Gischia helped her own cause by hitting a triple in QCPFC’s 26-13 win over River Rock Lanes in Class C of the Iron Range Women’s Softball League on Aug. 8.

The winners’ Liz Valela hit a grand slam homer, while teammates Jenn Quayle and Mallory Pruett along with River Rock’s Jordan Fitzpatrick all hit garden-variety four-baggers.

In another “C” contest, Amy Bazinette, Ecko Popps and Chastity Ellet each went 4 for 5 and Mariah Heard 3 for 4 as all four players homered in Eagles’ 17-12 win over Willey’s Tire Shop.

Willey’s Caitlin Hewitt was 4 for 4 with a triple while Beckey Grove was 3 for 4.

Steph Stocking and Stacie Vahamaa each doubled and Kera Williams picked up two RBIs in U.P. Health Plan’s low-scoring 4-3 win over Jack’s Teepee 1.

Mara Couch cracked two homers and Jen Anderson went 3 for 4 as Venice 2 held off Pineshears 11-9.

Pineshears’ Nikki Long went 4 for 4 and Amanda Arbelius 3 for 4 while Chelsea Roberts homered.

Val Prusi homered in U.P. Fabricating’s 13-7 win over Marquette Embroidery, whose Katie Menard was 3 for 3 with a triple and homer.

Bertucci Construction pulled out a 16-15 win over Jack’s Teepee 2, whose Virginia Trudell hit a triple and Danielle Riley had two RBIs.

In Class A, nine Cognition Brewing Co. batters collected multiple hits in its’ 26-5 mercy-rule win over Sisters.

Nicolette Schultz led the way for the winners by going 4 for 5 with a triple and two doubles. Terri Tammelin, who doubled, Molley Wales and Nicole Gustafson were also 4 for 5.

Teammate Mariah LaPointe-Dunham was 3 for 5 with three doubles as Mandie Meyer, who tripled, Amanda Harlock, who doubled, were also 3 for 5.

And Cognition’s Kristen Pickett went 3 for 4, Terri Todd 2 for 4 and Brigitte LaPointe-Dunham hit a triple.

Sisters had five hitters with at least two hits. Sandie Whitford was 3 for 3, scoring two runs, while Ashley Nylander doubled and Elleta Weber, Linda Dompierre, Amanda Marlowe and Brittany Etelamaki all went 2 for 3.

Also in “A,” Libby Nelson went 3 for 3 with two homers in an 8-7 one-run victory posted by Buck’s Party Store over Screened Image, whose Paige Yoho was 4 for 4 and Stacie Kruse 3 for 4.

Cassy Sandberg went 5 for 5 as Venice 1 felled Martin Sports 22-7. The winners’ Ashley Pietro was 4 for 5 and Brittney Rovelsky 3 for 4.

Martin’s Joanna Smail, who tripled, and Thalicia DellAngelo each went 3 for 3.

Kassy Carlson, who tripled, Nikki Klenc and Sarah Massie all went 4 for 4 in Tino’s 22-5 win over Jasper Ridge Brewery. Teammate Josey Moyle was 3 for 4 with a triple.

Jasper’s Taylor Watters was 4 for 4 with a double and Erika Bjorn 3 for 3 with a triple and double.

In Class B, Connie Kontio was 4 for 4 with a homer in Quality Car Care’s 11-10 razor-close victory over Yooper Shirts. The winners’ Becky Moyle went 3 for 4, as did Yooper’s Cassidy Hahn and Neily Collick.

Also in “B,” Traci Sundberg help her own cause on the pitching rubber by collecting three hits including a triple in Brogie’s 19-15 victory over Dave’s Collision. Dave’s Heather Moore collected three hits while Jamee Gobert and Libbie Doney both tripled.

Jess Taisto hit two triples and Megan Blixt and Andria Corcoran each doubled in Pasquali’s 14-5 win over Paradise, whose Stephanie Shirkey was 2 for 2 and Jess Harper tripled.

Carla Honkala homered in VALIC’s 11-9 win over Signs Unlimited.

Buster’s posted a 21-2 mercy-rule win over Venice 3, whose Krista Squiers tripled and Kelley Delongchamp was cited for her quality pitching.
