Marquette Redmen soccer blanks Escanaba, 5-0

MARQUETTE — Marquette Senior High School posted a 5-0 victory at Escanaba-Bayside in a high school boys soccer game played Monday.

Drew Wyble and Joseph Carlisle scored for the Redmen (4-1) in the first half as they took a 2-0 halftime lead, then Pablo Sanchez put the game away with two more goals to make it 4-0. Evan Phillips tacked on the last goal for the final score.

The Marquette defense allowed just one shot on goal, and that was faced by Liam Jeevar, who was Redmen goalkeeper in the first half. Kyle Michelson tended the goal after halftime for MSHS.

On Saturday, the Redmen played three games at the Sunrise Side Soccer Challenge in Alpena.

Marquette opened with a 2-0 victory over Adrian with Sanchez and Trevor Salmon scoring and Jeevar and Harrison Smith getting assists.

Game 2 was a 2-1 win for the Redmen over the host Wildcats. Sanchez and Salmon also scored in that game with Nick Lindberg getting an assist.

In the championship game, MSHS lost to Troy Athens 5-0.

In each of those games, Michelson played in goal in the first half and Jeevar in the second half.

Marquette hosts Iron Mountain at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Kaufman Sports Complex.
