Becky Gauthier knocks in Liz King with Signs Unlimited’s game-winner in Iron Range Women’s Softball League
ISHPEMING — Liz King went 3 for 4 and scored the winning run while Becky Gauthier was 3 for 3 and knocked in that game-winner in Signs Unlimited’s 14-13 victory over Buster’s in a Class B game in the Iron Range Women’s Softball League on July 25.
Brandi Maxon went 3 for 4 with a homer for Buster’s.
In other “B” action, Venice 3’s Jen Laurila, Julie Boule and Caylie Gray were cited for their defense in one of the league’s lowest-scoring games of the season, a 3-0 win posted by their team over Yooper Shirts. Yooper’s Casey Dugan and Katie Axford each hit triples.
Kim Wakeham was 4 for 4 and Janelle Thompson 4 for 5 as Quality Car Care defeated Paradise 14-9. Paradise’s Jess Harper went 3 for 3 with a triple and double while Sue Rice was 2 for 3 with a homer.
Jen Wollner went 4 for 4 and Jen Heitikko was 2 for 2 to lead Dave’s Collision to a 19-8 win over VALIC, which got a 3-for-4 performance from Laura L’Esperance and 2-for-2 out of Maria Parks.
Tamara Wommer doubled to help Pasquali’s overcome Brogie’s 14-11. Brogie’s Traci Sundberg had a triple and double while Hillary Richardson had a triple.
In Class C, Anna Chipman went 5 for 5 with a double to help U.P. Health Plan outscore the Eagles 25-23. Teammates Ellen Sundberg, who hit two doubles, and Stacie Vahamaa, who added one, both were 4 for 5.
Eagles’ Ecko Popps hit a grand slam homer while Amy Bazinette homered.
In other “C” action, Ann Herman went 5 for 5 with two homers and a double as Pineshears raced past Marquette Embroidery 29-5. The winners’ Chelsea Roberts went 4 for 5 with a homer and two doubles, while Mary Peterson was 4 for 5 with a triple and two doubles.
And teammates Nikki Long, who tripled, and Livvie Wood both hit homers.
For Embroidery, Carla Lovern, who was 3 for 3, and Erin Saari each hit triples.
Sam Dymond and Macey Nault hit doubles to help Jack’s Teepee 1 post an interfamily 14-10 win over Jack’s Teepee 2, which got triples from Holly Luokkala and Virginia Trudell.
Elle Bertucci homered and Rhonda Bertucci tripled to help Bertucci Construction score an 18-14 win over U.P. Fabricating, which got two homers apiece from BreAnna Leanes and Valerie Prusi.
Krystal Heikkinen and Ashley Juchemich both hit triples as Willey’s Tire Shop scored a 17-9 win over QCPFC, which got homers from Krystal Foster and Madison Pruitt.
Brianna Lynch, who doubled, and Jordan Fitzpatrick each were 4 for 4 as River Rock Lanes doubled up for a 16-8 win over Venice 2. The winners’ Linda Carello was 2 for 4 with a triple, while Venice’s Kristen Utzman, who hit two triples, and Mara Couch both went 3 for 4.
In Class A, Stacie Kruse and Paige Yoho each went 4 for 5 and scored four runs to help Screened Image beat Sisters 21-3.
The winners’ Meagan Petros was 5 for 5 and teammate Erin King hit a triple and double, while Sisters’ Eletta Weber, who doubled, and Anna Noskey each went 2 for 3 while their teammate Jesse Rosten doubled.
In other “A” action, Molly Wales went 4 for 4 with a triple while scoring four runs as Cognition Brewing Co. blasted Buck’s Party Store 18-5. Teammate Nicole Gustafson was also 4 for 4 while scoring twice, while Mandie Meyer was 4 for 5 with a double and two runs.
And Cognition’s Nicolette Schultz hit two doubles, scoring twice; Maria Slater and Amanda Harlock both tripled; Terri Tammelin doubled; and Terri Todd went 2 for 2.
Buck’s Kathy Hill went 3 for 3, Amber Buckmaster 2 for 3 with a triple, Janet Koski 2 for 2 and Liz Hamming tripled. All four of those players plus Dindy Cousineau scored a run, too.
LeAnn Saarela collected four hits, two of them homers, while teammate Brittany Singer went 4 for 4 in Jasper Ridge Brewery’s 18-2 win over Martin Sports, which saw Veronica Stone go 3 for 3 and Ashley Asgaard and Jamie VanBuren each go 2 for 3.
And Tino’s pulled out an 8-6 victory over Venice 1.
