Mariah LaPointe-Dunham twice knocks ball over fence for Cognition Brewing in Iron Range Softball win

NEGAUNEE — Mariah LaPointe-Dunham hit three home runs, two of them over the fence, in a 3-for-3 night to lead Cognition Brewing Co. to a razor-thin 10-9 victory over Sisters in a Class A game in the Iron Range Women’s Softball League on June 13.

Teammate Mandie Meyer went 3 for 3 with a pair of doubles and three runs scored, while Terri Tammelin was 2 for 3 with a homer, double and two runs and Nicolette Schultz and Kristen Pickett each homered.

For Sisters, six players all went 2 for 3 — Elleta Weber, Angie Judici, Jesse Rosten, Sandie Whitford, Brooke Etelamaki and Ashely Nylander. Weber hit two homers, while Rosten and Judici each scored twice and Whitford was credited for her pitching.

In other “A” action, Liz Hemming went 5 for 5 and Nicole Christensen 4 for 5 in a 23-19 win posted by Buck’s Party Store over Screened Image, which got 4-for-5 performances that included a triple from both Courtney Waara and Hannah Holma.

Tabby Guidebeck and LeAnn Saarela each collected four hits in Jasper Ridge Brewery’s 19-4 victory over Martin Sports, whose Thalicia Delangelo homered.

Beth Christianson tripled twice while going 2 for 3 in Venice 1’s 21-11 win over Tino’s, whose Shana Caliguri homered.

In Class B, Sue Rice and Jessica Harper each went 4 for 4 as Paradise was overjoyed with a 9-5 win over Dave’s Collision. Rice included a homer in her output and Harper a double.

Dave’s Amy Niemi went 3 for 3.

Nicki Richer was 3 for 4 with a triple and Brylee Ranta and Ashley Kind each homered in Brogie’s 14-6 win over Signs Unlimited, which saw Siiri Lawson and Jess Peura-Koski also go 3 for 4.

Rhonda Williams went 5 for 5 and Becky Moyle 4 for 4 in Quality Car Care’s 12-7 victory over Venice 3.

Hailey Fezatt doubled in Buster’s 6-1 win over VALIC, which got a run from Mindy Daavettila, while Yooper Shirts posted a 10-7 win over Pasquali’s, whose Jessica Taisto homered.

In Class C, Toni Tikkanen homered twice while going 4 for 4 in Pineshears’ 16-13 win over Jack’s Teepee 2. Teammates Victoria Powelson, who homered, Livvie Wood and Katie Tonge all were 3 for 4.

Jack’s Nancy Laine homered and scored three times while Kristi DeCaire tripled.

Ecko Popps hit two homers while going 3 for 3 in the Eagles’ 22-1 win over Marquette Embroidery. Teammate Amy Bazinette was 2 for 4, both hits triples, in support of winning hurler Sue Bazinette.

Embroidery’s Katie Menard went 2 for 2.

Mallory Pruett was 3 for 3 and Jenn Quayle 3 for 4 in QCPFC’s 14-7 double-up of Venice 2. Teammate Madison Pruett homered to help out winning pitcher Kathy Gischia.

Venice’s Jean Frederickson was 4 for 4 and Kathy Zyble 3 for 4.

Anna Chipman hit two homers, Chelsea Hewitt one roundtripper and Cheryl Churack a triple in U.P. Health Plan’s 15-8 victory over U.P. Fabricating, which saw Renee Caya go 3 for 3 with a homer.

Terri Brooks went 3 for 3 and Amy Williams homered in a narrow 8-7 win posted by Willey’s Tire Shop over Bertucci Construction, whose Kinsie Bertucci went 3 for 4.

Jordan Grigg was credited with outstanding pitching in a 23-7 win by Jack’s Teepee 1 over River Rock Lanes, whose Rachel Scott pounded out a pair of doubles.
