Munising Mustangs sweep Carney-Nadeau on volleyball court

MUNISING — Munising improved to 7-1 in the Skyline Central Conference volleyball race with a three-set home sweep of Carney-Nadeau on Tuesday.

The Mustangs won 25-21, 25-23, 25-20 to move their record to 17-5-4 overall.

“We had our usual strong contributions from out outside hitters, Daryn Johnson and Kianne Wendt, and Emily Contreras had a another great performance serving,” MHS coach Ted Williams said. “It was an especially great night for our middles (hitters), Cheyenne Graves and Michaela Werner, and our defense, especially Marissa Ackerman and Keira Stampfly.”

Wendt led the Munising offense with 13 kills, while Johnson added five and Graves and Werner had two apiece. Wendt also had 20 digs and two blocks, Werner six blocks and five digs and Graves five blocks.

Stampfly added 18 digs and five blocks, Ackerman 34 digs and Contreras 14 assists and 10 digs.

The Wolves won the JV match, 25-16, 20-25, 15-8.

Munising’s next scheduled match is at North Central on Monday.
