Manistique Emeralds defeat St. Ignace in volleyball

MANISTIQUE — It took a little while for Manistique to find its groove Monday night as the Emeralds rallied past St. Ignace at home in four sets, 21-25, 25-17, 27-25, 25-17, in a nonconference volleyball match.

“I think we got off to a slow start passing,” Emeralds’ coach Amy Nixon said. “We gained some momentum in the first set, but it was too late to win that one. Our momentum carried over into Set 2 and that helped us get off to a good start. Our passing was good in Set 2. We got the ball to our hitters and it definitely carried over through the remainder of the match.”

Manistique’s Lenna Smith collected 10 kills and 32 digs and had two service aces. Abby Burnham and Kayla Muth added eight kills each. Joslyn Mutch finished with six aces and 33 assists and Sydny Peterson recorded 16 digs.

The Emeralds, who dropped the JV match 25-15, 25-17, finish their regular season at Big Bay de Noc on Thursday.
