Northern Michigan University names Andy Keller as assistant Nordic ski coach
MARQUETTE — A former Michigan Tech University athlete has been named assistant coach of the Nordic ski program at Northern Michigan University.
Andy Keller will assist head coach Sten Fjeldheim after a collegiate career with the Huskies and having been with the coaching staff of the Central Cross Country Skiing Association, including most recently as its head coach.
Keller, who holds a bachelor’s degree in exercise science, was head coach for athletes who advanced to the 2016 Under-23 World Championships and 2017 World Championships ski team, while also training a skier to the national title in the 15-kilometer skate last winter.
Three years prior to being head coach, he was development coach in charge of junior programming, coaching a junior national team, four All-Americans and one who competed for the U18 Nations Cup team. He also coached 17 junior national team qualifiers and five Wisconsin state ski champions.
“I am excited for Andy as he will be a great asset to the Northern Michigan University Nordic ski team,” said Yuriy Gusev, executive director of CXC. “I am also thrilled that Andy will continue his coaching career in the Central Region and we will continue to work closely on athlete development initiatives.”
