Lapointe-Dunham powers Screened Image to Class A victory

NEGAUNEE — Mariah Lapointe-Dunham went 2 for 4, but both hits were homers as Screened Image slipped by Cognition Brewing Co. 8-3 in a Class A game of the Iron Range Women’s Softball League on July 19.

The winners’ Meagan Petros was 4 for 4 while Paige Yoho was 3 for 4 with a double. Cognition’s Molly Wales and Tiah Pusakulich each went 2 for 3 with a double.

In another Class A game, Beth Christianson and Michelle Tuuri both went 5 for 5 as Venice 1 burned up the scoreboard with a 35-4 victory over Martin Sports. Martin’s Joanna Smail and Vanessa Briones each had two hits while teammate Shana Caliguri was lauded for her defense.

Liz Hamming went 4 for 4 with two doubles and Jamie Cory was 3 for 4 as Buck’s Party Store shut out Honkala Construction 28-0. Honkala’s Julie Markham, Carla Honkala and Maria Honkala each had a single.

LeAnn Saarela went 4 for 4 and Danielle Carlson 3 for 4 with a triple as Jasper Ridge Brewery blew by Sister’s 15-6. Sister’s Angie Juidici doubled.

In the other Class A game, Jubilee Foods scored a 13-7 victory over Crossfit 906.

In Class B, Jamee Gobert went 5 for 5 and hit for the cycle as Dave’s Collision ran into a 23-3 win over Venice 3. The winners’ Mel Bess was also 5 for 5, including three doubles, while Heather Moore homered while going 3 for 5 and Linda Denofre doubled in a 3-for-4 game.

Venice’s Caylie Gray was 2 for 2 with a triple.

Also in Class B, Josey Moyle was 4 for 4 with two homers and Taryn Moyle 3 for 3 with one homer as Tino’s blew past Signs Unlimited 22-6. Signs’ Bethy Finnila homered.

Loretta Willey homered to lead Yooper Shirts past Eagles 16-6. The Eagles’ Janelle Buttery was 3 for 3 and Micailly Carlson homered.

Colie Ball was 4 for 5 and Taylor Wilbur homered in Buster’s 12-6 doubling up of Pasquali’s, which got two doubles from Megan Blixt.

Kim Wakeham helped turn two double plays and Brandi Petrocik was lauded for her base running as Quality Car Care scored a 16-1 victory over Jack’s TeePee 1. Jack’s Alyssa Erspamer was cited for her defense.

In Class C, Val Prusi homered and Emily Richards stopped an opposition home run at the plate to get U.P. Fabricating a 12-11 squeaker over Paradise.

For Paradise, Rachel Frederick was 3 for 3 and Maria Stanaway 2 for 3 with a homer.

Miranda Cobb, who homered, and Penny Comment both went 4 for 4 as Willey’s Tire Shop doubled up Wooden Nickel 10-5. The Nickel’s Lise Plis and Bethany Firby each went 3 for 3.

Toni Tikkanen of AAA Insurance and Jenni Quayle of QCPFC each hit grand slams, but it was AAA that prevailed 18-16.

Jordan Wixtrom went 4 for 4 with a homer, Tiffany Nicholas 3 for 4 and the winners plated 10 runs in the sixth as River Rock Lanes felled U.P. Health Plan 19-9. UPHP’s Anna Chipman doubled and Cheryl Churack had two RBIs.

Jack’s TeePee 2 pulled out a big comeback in the seventh inning to nip Marquette Embroidery 11-10. Embroidery’s Amy Young homered and Sara Munson doubled and had an RBI.

Jodi Hemmila and Kayla Bertucci each doubled as Bertucci Constructions whipped together a 21-4 lashing of Venice 2, which got a homer from Mara Couch.
