MARQUETTE — Junior Emily Helgren and senior Liam Robinson were named the Superiorland Kiwanis Athletes of the Month for March at Marquette Senior High School.

Helgren was a member of the Redettes’ two-time state champion figure skating team while also a 2016 individual state champion in the Preliminary Freeskate.

She has been recognized as an MSHS Club Sparkle Award winner along with the Sportsmanship and Advancement awards.

Helmgren carries a 3.80 grade-point average, has received an Academic Achievement Award, is a member of the National Honor Society and has continually been named to the honor roll.

She volunteers twice a week with the Marquette Figure Skating Club’s youth program along with helping at all skating events.

She hopes to attend Northern Michigan University to pursue a degree in elementary education.

Robinson helped lead the Redmen to their first bowling regional championship in February, winning by nearly 200 pins. He was also an individual champion at the regionals, averaging 216.

At the state finals, he recorded the best finish ever by a Marquette bowler, making it to the semifinals in bracket play.

Carrying a 3.77 GPA, Robinson is a member of the National Honor Society, received the Academic Achievement Award and is a constant on the honor roll.

He has volunteered with the Iron Range Roll and Ore to Shore races and helped at parent-teacher conferences.

Robinson plans to attend Michigan Tech this fall to major in computer science.
