Munising girls, Carney-Nadeau boys top Skyline Central Conference at league golf meet

MUNISING — Medalists Bailey Downs and Hunter Eichhorn led their respective girls and boys squads to team victories at the Skyline Central Conference Golf Championship held at Pictured Rocks Golf Course in Munising on Monday.

Downs shot 99 to lead Munising to a 74-stroke victory in the girls meet, while Eichhorn carded a sizzling 68 to not only run away with his meet but lead Carney-Nadeau to a 19-shot victory in the boys meet.

Downs beat out North Central’s Jadie Linder by just one stroke after the latter shot 100 for a unit that didn’t post a team score.

The Mustangs’ Frankie Mattson was third with 104.

Munising totaled 433 as all four of its scorers broke into the girls’ top 10 and made the all-conference team. Big Bay de Noc was a distant second with 507, followed by Forest Park with 509 and Mid Peninsula with 592.

In the boys meet, Eichhorn had a 13-stroke edge on runner-up Kyle Welters of Munising, who carded 81. The Wolves’ Mason Linder was third with 88 as all four C-N scorers also made all-conference by cracking the top 10. Forest Park’s Riley Hendrickson tied Linder with 88.

C-N totaled 349 to 368 for runner-up Munising, while Forest Park had 383, Bark River-Harris 411 and Big Bay de Noc 433.

The other all-conference selections based on their top-10 performances Monday include for the boys, Kyle Starnes of BR-H, 90; Anthony Mattson of Munising, 90; Chase Linder of C-N, 95; James Olson of FP, 97; Bryce Bowerman of Munising, 97; Lee Hedtke of FP, 98; and Kage Linder of C-N, 98.

For the girls, Caitlin Sefcik of BBdN, 109; Taylor Downs of Munising, 111; Tiana Halfaday of BR-H, 117; Alina Soha of FP, 118; Marissa Immel of Munising, 119; Avery Sommer of FP, 120; and Marissa O’Connor of BR-H, 121.
