Marquette Redmen split with Kingsford in baseball twinbill

MARQUETTE — The Redmen split a doubleheader with Kingsford Monday afternoon in a high school baseball doubleheader played at Haley Memorial Field.

Garrett Finkbeiner was the storyline on the pitcher’s mound for Marquette in the first game, giving up just one run in the first inning to Kingsford’s Hunter Lindeman.

But a run in the first and two in the third supported Finkbeiner’s performance enough to earn the win, despite Marquette only scratching out five hits.

Alec Beauchamp scored two runs for Marquette, while Blake Henriksen scored a run and racked up an RBI. Holden Shaneberger also batted in an RBI, while Finkbeiner only gave up five hits.

But Marquette’s offense couldn’t give pitcher Brendan Kaski the same run support in the second game, as the Redmen were shut out and earned just two hits off Kingsford pitcher Noah Wilcox.

Kingsford scored in each of the first four innings, putting up six runs in the second inning to help put the game out of reach and mercy the Redmen.

Hunter Doucette was the lone hitter for Marquette with two hits.

Kaski gave up seven runs on three hits in 1 2/3 innings of work.

Marquette will host North Central in a doubleheader at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
