May Waters leads Negaunee gymnastics team to victory

MARQUETTE — Freshman May Waters led a 1-2-3-4 sweep by Negaunee in the all-around as the Miners dominated a high school gymnastics meet dual meet held at Marquette Senior High School on Monday.

Waters, who won three of the four individual disciplines, totaled 32.35 points as the Miners racked up a total score of 123.82. Multiple 120-point meets are needed to qualify a team as a whole for districts at the end of the season.

Sophomore Enola Jeevar had the Redettes’ top finish, fifth in the all-around with 28.02 points on the strength of a pair of third places and a fourth.

Waters won the all-around by less than a half point over sophomore teammate Kylar Kallioinen, who totaled 31.9 by winning the beam, taking second on vault and floor and third on bars.

Kalli Mattson was third in all-around with 29.95, while fellow Miners’ junior Skylar Taavola was fourth with 29.575.

Waters took the floor exercise with 8.6, bars with 7.85 and vault with 8.35, while Kallioinen carried the day in beam with 8.0.
