2nd-half comeback keeps Munising Mustangs girls basketball team undefeated

MUNISING — The Munising girls basketball team has been on a roll all season and didn’t slow down with a makeup game on Wednesday.

After being snowed out Tuesday, the Mustangs remained undefeated after taking down Forest Park 53-40 a day later.

Frankie Mattson led Munising with 15 points, while Marissa Immel added 14 and Kianne Wendt 12. Forest Park’s Jenna Grabowski led all scorers with 16 points and Becky Kolenda had 10.

Munising (15-0) struggled offensively in the first half and trailed 20-17 at the break. Then the Mustangs outscored the Trojans 18-9 in the third quarter to take control.

“It was a little ugly, but we’ll take it,” Munising head coach Matt Mattson said. “I thought our defense was pretty good holding them to 20 in the first half, but we really struggled on offense. We missed layups and easy shots, but we turned it around.

“Frankie had a bad first half, but she pulled it together. Kianne had a good game and Marissa kept us in it when we were struggling. Marissa Ackerman also did a great job on defense.”

The Mustangs, who also won the JV game 44-38, play at North Dickinson tonight.
