Tri Media Pee Wee hockey team captures Mad City Mid Winter Classic

MARQUETTE — The Marquette Tri Media 12-under Pee Wee AA travel hockey team won the Mad City Mid Winter Classic tournament in Madison, Wisconsin, from Jan. 13-15.

Marquette (33-1-3) shut out the Trenton Blades in the championship, 2-0, as Jack Sides and AJ Bottari scored goals and teammate Liam Beerman made 14 saves in net.

In pool play, Tri Media shut down Trenton again, 4-0, with Sides, Ethan Phillips, Dylan King and Brayden Grange scoring and Beerman making 10 saves.

Marquette also defeated Indianapolis Jr. Fuel 7-0 as Cole Ranta netted four goals and Phillips, Drew Dellies and Theo Adams added one each. Beerman was called on to make just three saves.

Tri Media wrapped up pool play with a 7-2 win over Wilmette, Illinois, Braves. Phillips and Jake Garrow each had two goals while Grange, Adams and Bottari added one apiece and Beerman made 16 saves.

The locals lost for the only time this season during a two-game split against the Traverse City North Stars from Jan. 6-8.

Coach Mike L’Huillier’s team fell 1-0 in its opener, giving up the only goal with just 20 seconds left after Beerman had made 20 saves.

In Game 2, Grange and Sides scored in Marquette’s 2-0 victory as Beerman recorded a 17-save shutout. Grange’s goal was unassisted while Dellies and Phillips had assists on the latter score.

Tri Media takes part in a tournament in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, this weekend. The team’s next home games are March 3-5 when it hosts the 12-under Pee Wee AA state tournament.
