NEGAUNEE — The Negaunee High School gymnastics team hosted the new Houghton County cooperative team, the Superior 7s, at a meet on Tuesday night.

The Miners posted their highest team score ever, 127.025 points, while Superior scored 119.025.

Superior’s Sydney Polakowski won the all-around with 32.125 points, while Kylar Kallioinen of Negaunee was a close runner-up with 31.9 and the Miners’ May Waters also close in third with 31.6.

Waters won the vault with an 8.5 and floor exercise with 8.55, while teammate Lexi Caya took the uneven bars with 8.15 and Polakowski was champion of the beam with 8.2.

In addition, Kallioinen was second in bars with 7.9 and tied for second in beam with teammate Kalli Mattson, each earning 7.75. Skylar Taavola of Negaunee was also third in floor with 8.15.

The Miners travel to Houghton for a return meet with the Superior 7s.
