Hanninen’s 6 treys not enough for Republic-Michigamme

Munising boys fall for first time this season

REPUBLIC — Dylan Hanninen sank six 3-pointers and scored a game-high 29 points but it wasn’t quite enough as Republic-Michigamme fell to Dollar Bay 70-64 in a Copper Mountain Conference boys basketball game on Monday night.

In this closely contested contest, the Hawks jumped out to an 18-16 lead after one quarter.

However, the Blue Bolts went ahead 35-32 at halftime and 52-48 by the end of the third quarter.

R-M’s River Shumate added 12 points, while DB was paced by Devin Schmitz with 21 points, Jaden Janke with 19 and Jacob Iacono with 17.

The teams combined to make 16 triples while Dollar Bay also was 21 of 28 at the free-throw line, a 75 percent success rate.

Carney-Nadeau 59,

Munising 46

At Carney, Munising lost for the first time this season when it couldn’t solve the scoring riddle of Hunter Eichhorn, who finished with 32 points including 15 in the fourth quarter.

“Hunter took over the game in the fourth quarter,” C-N coach Jake Polfus said.

Alec Blank paced Munising (8-1, 5-1 Skyline Central Conference) with 17 points while teammate Jamie Mattson had 11.

The Wolves (6-2, 5-2) led 34-21 at halftime before the Mustangs got back within 39-30 at the end of the third quarter.

Free throws made a difference as C-N made 15 of 19 and Munising was just 6 of 16.

The Wolves also won the JV game, but no score was available.
