Ethan Wallner, Mariel Morton lead swimmers from Ishpeming-Negaunee over Westwood

NEGAUNEE — Ethan Wallner chalked up four victories to lead the Ishpeming-Negaunee boys swim team to a 101-38 victory over visiting Westwood at Negaunee High School on Monday afternoon.

In the girls meet, Mariel Morton was a winner in three events to lead I-N to a much closer 82-73 victory over the Patriots.

Wallner won the 200- and 500-yard freestyle races along with swimming a leg in two victorious relays for the I-N boys.

Teammates Owen Morton, Coltin Chapman and Mitchell LaBelle each had a hand in three victories. Morton won the 50 free, 100 free and a relay, Chapman the 100 backstroke and two relays and LaBelle the 100 breaststroke and a pair of relays.

Other individual winners for I-N were Sebastian DeWitt in the 200 individual medley and Thomas LaFave in the 100 butterfly.

For Westwood, Joseph Boburka won the diving and swam a leg in the victorious 200 medley relay with Brock Sundberg, Matthew LaFountain and Andrew Kalbfleisch.

In the girls meet, Mariel Morton won the 100 back and the 200 free while adding a relay win. I-N’s Delaney McLaughlin won the 200 IM and MaKenzee VanBuren the 100 free as each were part of a winning relay. Teammate Mandy Helppi had a pair of relay victories.

Westwood’s Victoria Schultz won the 50 free, Isidora Patrick the diving, Aleah Korpi the 100 fly and Stephanie Conery the 500 free.
