As a resident of the city of Ishpeming, I have long enjoyed the privilege of using many of the offerings of the Ishpeming Carnegie Public Library. I've enjoyed reading books I have checked out since I was a second grader who loved the Nancy Drew mysteries, and I still enjoy mysteries as well as other fiction and nonfiction books. The ICPL is able to make sure that I have a copy, either paper or digital, of just about any book I request, as there is a wonderful service called interlibrary loan as well as another called Libby, which provides ebooks.
Besides books, newspapers, and magazines, the ICPL also has computers and internet access available for patrons. There is a jigsaw puzzle exchange area and, of course, study and reading areas. There is an adult book club as well as a library-sponsored book club that meets monthly at the Ishpeming Senior Center.
There is the Ray Leverton Community Room where library programs are held and which is also available for patrons to reserve. And thanks to the efforts of Ray Leverton and many others, our library has ramps for access as well as an elevator.
The Children's Room in the lower level is always busy with many offerings in addition to an excellent collection of books. A few of the regular programs are Tot Tuesday Storytime, Baby Play Day, Graphic Novel Book Club and Lego Club.
In 2026 there were 528 children and teens signed up for the Summer Reading Program! There was also an adult Summer Reading Program and there were special programs for children, teens and adults throughout the summer months.
We are fortunate to have a dedicated, knowledgeable, and friendly staff at the Ishpeming Carnegie Public Library. I cannot say enough about their helpfulness and excellent qualifications.
Please consider all these services when you cast your ballot this fall and vote yes on the library millage proposal to keep the current level of service, including current staffing levels, collections, technology and programming as well as routine maintenance and preservation of our very special library building.
