The following was sent to U.S. Rep. Jack Bergman, R-Watersmeet, just before 9 a.m. through his congressional portal.
Congressman Bergman Congress has generously supplied the federal government with money to protect borders and defend the United States. However, President Trump has used that money to: Start a war of choice with Iran, raising the cost of living in the Upper Peninsula. Continue killing unarmed crews in boats while drug traffic continues unabated. Open and close ICE detention facilities without planning. Deport and kill innocent people in ICE raids.
Destroy the East Wing of the White House and Rose Garden. Enter into a no-bid contract with a buddy who turned the Lincoln reflecting pool into a green slime pit. Use government lawyers to persecute people he doesn't like while pardoning drug kingpins, police assailants, and defrauders. Many of whom continue to break the law. Meddle in the opening of the Canadian-funded Gordie Howe bridge in Detroit, benefiting a billionaire owner of a nearby aging bridge who contributed $1 million to a political action committee that supports the president. Use his office to benefit himself by over $1 billion. Forbes magazine says the president has increased his value by $1.4 billion, much of which has come from governments in the Middle East.
Threaten our good neighbors in Canada. Threaten Greenland/Denmark, a NATO country. Demean and belittle NATO, an organization which you served as a deputy commander. Seven years ago, in a June 19, 2019 response to my inquiry about the US/Iran conflict, you wrote to me, "Congress must remain committed to creating a long-term diplomatic strategy in Iran while working to prevent overreach of executive power."Pointed questions asked
Reminiscent of Japan's pre-Pearl Harbor actions, the president attacked Iran while in active negotiations with Iran and attacked Iran without approval or oversight of Congress. What actions can you take or have taken to fulfill the commitment to a long-term diplomatic strategy and overreach of executive branch power? Will you use Congress’s power of the purse to condition future appropriations on ending these practices? Will you publicly reaffirm the U.S. commitment to NATO and to friendly relations with Canada and Denmark?
