To the Journal editor:

Why did U.S. Rep. Jack Bergman question the work of local postal service and not the work of the Department of Homeland Security? Current ICE agents receive six weeks of training. (From The Brief, Feb. 26, 2026 Time Magazine) The cost of law enforcement is costing U.S. taxpayers billions of dollars. These costs evidently are not applied to adequate training to have a legitimate (following our laws and constitution) force.

Why aren’t more funds going to our veterans? Congress has bolstered the CBP budgets while background checks have fallen behind resulting in much misconduct. For example, reaching into cars and standing in front of moving vehicles.

What is the congressional budget that manages our nation’s finances and offers a fiscal vision for the benefit of all constituents to have an affordable life?

Why do we allow 800,000 people to be homeless as warehouses are being paid for to shackle, stack and store detainees, here and beyond?

How is it that delays and cancellations of flights have become routine and yet Boeing 767s transport shackled ICE expelled immigrants to Africa and Asia to be warehoused outside of the U.S.? Without including the high risk fees, $20,475 per flight hour was listed in a 2023 pricing sheet from ICE brokers. (Mother Jones Magazine March/April 2026).

Why is it even a consideration to rebrand the Department of Defense with an estimated cost for $10 million before additional costs to update websites, letterheads and signage or ceremonial objects racking the total cost to $125 million for the newly named Department of War? At the same time every safety net from the; EPA., Healthcare subsidies and Snap benefits part of the list have been severely cut and eliminated?

Question the work of the White House occupant. He said votes “were stolen from him through illegal votes and illegal counting.”

Out of 23.5 million votes, 30 or 0.0001% non-citizen votes were applied. (Heather Cox Richardson, a noted historian)

He said, “Make America Great Again.” He said, “Tariffs are beautiful.” How can affordability for all be so out of reach in the one-time richest country in the world?

He said in over 100 minutes the blame for any problems we have is at the fault of the administration before him.

He said “Piggy, stupid, leftist radicals, garbage, trash and losers” and used the ‘R’ word. I’m sure I’ve missed some of the derisive adjectives and names he’s given to  people.

He said…. “Because I can.”

He has lied over and over and over again.

And he said “…forget about it.” The victims don’t forget. And neither do we!

Do we now deserve this gift? Are we truly independent? If so, for how long?
