Marine birthday marked
On Monday, Nov. 10, we honor 250 years of U.S. Marine Corps distinction, tracing back to the founding at Tun Tavern in 1775, where a few determined individuals established a legacy of honor, courage and commitment that continues to unite us today.
From the Revolutionary War and world wars, the frozen expanse of the Chosin Reservoir to the sun-drenched terrain of Iwo Jima and from the halls of Montezuma to Tripoli’s shores, Marines have served bravely across countless battlefields since that initial gathering two and a half centuries ago.
Over generations, countless men and women have earned, never simply given–the title of United States Marine, proving themselves through hard-fought battles defending freedom, providing liberties and aiding allies worldwide. This milestone is a testament to the enduring values and standards upon which the Corps was built.
As Ronald Reagan remarked: “Some people spend an entire lifetime wondering if they made a difference. The United States Marines don’t have that problem.”
Let us raise a glass in tribute to those who preceded us, those no longer among us and those who continue to lead our journey of excellence.
Semper fi and happy birthday to the U.S. Marines!
