Government needs work
To the Journal editor:
A recent writer’s claim, I think, “All federal aid recipients are defrauds,” is false. … Still, so far, the DOGE has found serious program fraud. Just Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, have over 20 million defrauders. These programs need. … federal checking.
DOGE has not been around long enough to find amounts that other groups have. The Heritage Foundation has found $6.7 trillion spent on wasteful programs and unaccountable, unelected bureaucrats in 2024. It isn’t just a few bad apples. The average family was must now pay $4,500 more to the IRS over the next eight years. That’s because Democrats raised taxes by $570 billion and recent high inflation times. The IRS shouldn’t have had an $80 billion raise, either, when so many Americans have to cut back.
Still, I agree that Republicans have also raised the hidden taxes of inflation and living costs. Also, our dangerous national debt which is $36 trillion plus. …Taxpayers spend more than $1.2 trillion on 90 plus federal welfare programs, often lacking work requirements, penalizing marriage and encouraging long-term dependence. Some aren’t necessary, at least, and could be safely stopped. Some could be combined into a single agency. Others have redundancies and could have vital functions folded into another agency doing similar work or state or local efforts. These changes would help people overall.
I detest of Vladimir Putin and Russian expansionism, many Republicans do and support NATO. Still, we need far more accounting of our estimated $250 billion plus aid to Ukraine. NATO countries could pay a much larger share plus just moderate raises in their defense with amounts depending on the country. Then the U.S. could focus more on the greater rising threat, China, world terrorism and our homeland security.
The above are just a few general problems of our government. It would take a long book to describe them. … Also, the recent writers labeling the president is backing homicide for some executive authority actions plus comparing him to a 911 terrorist with a jet is horrific. These views and some other opponents could very possibly influence hate-driven, unbalanced people taking more violence on him, more Republicans, Congress, members or other backers. That’s whether or not violence is just claimed by anyone.
