Publication lauded
To the Journal editor:
The Mining Journal is to be commended for its selection of syndicated columnists. There is something for every reader which is difficult to provide in our politically charged atmosphere. I especially appreciate the journalists who attempt to be objective, unbiased and fact-based.
My personal favorites are Cal Thomas, Rich Lowery, Michael Barrone and John Stossel. Rather than every article being partisan, they attempt to let the facts speak for themselves and praise or criticize accordingly. Recent writers added to the lineup, like Josh Hammer, are welcome additions as well. His article on the Muslim Brotherhood, and its ties to Hamas and other terrorist groups, rightly begs the question, “Why have they not been declared a terrorist organization by either political party?” The article is fact based and even handedly applied to failures on both sides of the political aisle, rather than simply scoring points for the writers, political affiliation.
Many of us remember Walter Cronkite ending his broadcast, saying, “That’s the way it is.” Most Americans believed him because they were convinced he was non-partisan, trying to be objective, despite his personal, political persuasion. We need more of this kind of old journalism today.
If journalists are just attempting to influence us into voting the way they wish, we all lose. We won’t possess the facts to separate truth from error. Democracy does die in darkness. May The Mining Journal continue its policy of giving us objective writers give us the facts we need, whether those facts support our favorite candidate or not.
