Small plastics pose big threat

Despite loads of data on the dangers of microplastics, they are still not regulated. They are everywhere. Literally. They have been found in plants, animals, water and human tissue and blood. Even in umbilical cords! They pose a huge public health risk causing myriad of health problems.

The first step in addressing this threat is monitoring microplastics, particularly in our water. As the governor of the Great Lakes state, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer ha an important role to play. I believe she should be the first to petition the EPA to monitor microplastics. If six other governors follow her lead, the EPA is obligated to monitor them.
