GOP blamed

To the Journal editor:

“Those that fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.”

— Winston Churchill

We are at it again. Or should I say “They” are at it again. And we know who “They” are.

There were nine separate committee investigations into Hillary Clinton and Benghazi. Nine. The FBI held their own investigation. The State Departments Inspector General’s office conducted their own investigation.

All nine congressional committees were chaired by a Republican. All nine committees had a Republican majority. None of them found any wrongdoing by Secretary Hillary Clinton. The only conclusion was that “mistakes were made.”

Kevin McCarthy’s statement that, “We brought Hillary’s numbers down” revealed the truth behind all of the congressional investigations.

And now to the present. Rep. Troy Nehls (R-Texas) when asked what was expected of the GOPs impeachment efforts said “Trump 2024 baby.” This is the basis for the GOPs efforts to impeach President Biden.

They are once again using taxpayer dollars to fund Republican campaigns. Period. I find this to be corrupt. You should too. An abuse of power.

After four years of investigation many Republicans, including James Comer, chairman of the House Oversight committee, admit they have no evidence of wrongdoing by President Biden. And yet the GOP house voted unanimously to authorize an impeachment “investigation” of President Biden.

While the Democratic-led bipartisan impeachments of Trump had ‘just cause’ the Republican Biden efforts are based on “just because,” just because you impeached trump. Twice. Just because we can. Just because we want revenge. Just because we have to draw attention away from Trump’s criminal indictments. Just because.

Abuse of power is malfeasance of office and can be considered as a criminal offense. It can be, at the very least, justification for removal from office. Abuse of office is exactly what the GOP has been doing since President Obamas first inauguration day.

This abuse of power is not confined to our nationally elected officials but also in many of our state houses.

While the Department of Justice or our legal system may be unwilling or unable to confront this problem, we as citizens have other methods to do so. Elections matter. Voting matters. We have the power to vote these people out of office. Vote in every election. Vote wisely. Vote blue for democracy.
