Unsafe driver cited
To the Journal editor:
After 36 years of driving around the City of Marquette, I had one of my worst moments ever. Just a few days ago. Right in downtown.
In the middle of the day, the area was busy with walkers, bicyclists, and oncoming traffic. As I headed north on North Lakeshore Boulevard on a cloudy day, I went by the Iron Bay Restaurant & Drinkery, moving along at firm 21 mph.
Without warning and unprovoked, a white SUV passed me on my left. I was passed in a 25 mph zone in the city of Marquette. I wasn’t aware of a passing lane on North Lakeshore Boulevard.
Even my favorite high school driver’s education teacher, Mr. Fran L’Huillier, had failed in 1987 to address this piece of knowledge to me.
Of course, I was upset, upset at the fact that, as this white SUV passed me, the passenger, a middle-aged woman, flipped me the bird. Her daring husband, the one wearing a hat and thinking he was at the Indy 500, sped off at 40 mph, eventually turning on East Ridge Street.
I followed them for a bit but failed at getting their license ID. When it was all said and done, with my wits about me, I felt this wasn’t their first time. It was like they lived by their own rules, lived without a care in the world, and lived under no rule of law.
Well, fellow drivers, they better be reading this thought: You make one mistake in this life and a long prison sentence awaits you both. Karma always finds its way to everyone.
