Not Cliffs Dow!
To the Journal editor:
I would like to comment on the article written by Sterling Schultz regarding the proposed location for the new Jacobetti veterans’ facility.
My husband is a Vietnam veteran. He was in-country from 1967 through 1968. During that time, he inhaled a good dose of Agent Orange. Since then he has suffered two bouts with cancer: one in 1983 with Hodgkin’s disease where his spleen was removed and 6 months of chemotherapy left him unable to father children; and a recent bout with prostate cancer took his prostate and scars from radiation therapy.
Now the city of Marquette, which paid $1 for the Cliffs Dow brownfield property, wants to put our honored veterans there.
My husband qualifies to go to a veteran’s facility if need be. Is this tainted and uncleanable piece of land the reward for his sacrifice? I think not!
I suggest that more thought be put into this plan. With hundreds of acres of land in Marquette County, there should be a site more appropriate.
Very truly yours,
