To the Journal editor:

Ah, wonderful, woke Marquette.

A shining bastion of rectitude in this dark wilderness. A slice for everyone.

Thank God for those who bestride the high ground and have the goodness, wisdom and courage to ignore majority opinion. If one is right, one is right. It’s a higher calling.

One can only envy the certitude and moral superiority.

As to all those unworthy mutterings about growing self-pity, the ever- expanding victim-industry; never mind priggishness, sanctimoniousness and self righteousness, they are churlish indeed.

This is serious. There is nothing humorous about it.

And, so it is in the spirit of compromise, of give and take, that I offer a suggestion which should satisfy all parties: Marquette Senior High School has two colors: red and white. Indeed, the cheer is “Go Red! Go White!”

Speaking as an old heterosexual white guy (or, as the clued-in class knows us: an OHWG), personally, I’d feel honored if the new considered nickname would be the MSHS “Whitemen.”
