DWOS a success

To the Journal editor:

After a 3-year hiatus, the fundraising event for the Upper Peninsula Hospice Foundation Dancing with our Stars returned May 24 and 25 to a record audience and also a record amount of funds raised.

As the director of the foundation, it was an amazing experience to watch the dance couples perform under the direction of some amazing dance professionals.

The crew, who are all volunteers, did a great job with the behind the scenes work and the Northern Michigan University team for lighting, sound an recording also did masterful work.

Coordinators Kori Bjorne and Lindsay Hemmila did a fantastic job in every area! Congratulations to the Herman’s for winning the Mirror Ball Trophy with their Spiderman presentation in the closest contest yet, the Digneit’s for winning the Fan Favorite by amassing a record number of votes because of their incredible fundraising and the Birmann’s for winning the Congeniality award on top of creating a memorable performance with their dance pro Kristen Ludwig after sustaining an injury two days before showtime!

Every dollar raised from votes and seats sold goes back to patient’s in hospice, and it’s a testament to our community about how we take care of our own. Thank you all!
