Letters to the Editor

Thanks, poll workers

To the Journal editor:

Kudos to everyone in Marquette County and around the State of Michigan who had a role in the 2022 midterm elections. The voting and vote counting were handled smoothly, securely, and efficiently.

High voter turnout during this midterm is a good indicator of growing public participation in our democracy and demonstrates that voters have faith in the fairness and security of the Michigan election process.

The folks who administer and oversee Michigan’s elections and the many volunteers who conduct them, including our local municipal clerks, poll workers, absent voter ballot counters, boards of canvassers and the people who work in the Secretary of State’s offices, are the backbone of Michigan’s electoral system. They protected the bedrock of our democracy–fair elections and the fundamental right of all eligible Michiganders to vote and have their votes counted.

If you know someone who worked in some capacity in this election, thank them for their participation and service. Our democracy depends on them.
