Backs Borione
To the Journal editor:
A new government CDC study reveals that America’s school children, especially teens, face an alarming mental health crisis–made worse by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The CDC study found that most teens experienced negative events of sadness, anxiety, bullying and even suicidal behaviors during the Covid-19 pandemic. And we have seen these issues locally at our schools.
Monet Borione, as an experienced psychologist, trained in suicide awareness, is an ideal candidate for School Board of the Marquette Area Public Schools. Monet currently helps administer the foster care program at the Marquette County Department of Health and Human Services. And she and her husband currently serve as foster care parents for two young boys and have their own son, all of whom are MAPS students. Monet also serves as chair of the Marquette Alger Child Abuse and Neglect Council.
Monet knows how to leverage community resources and manage grant funds. This is exactly the kind of expertise MAPS needs to help improve the wellbeing of all MAPS students. She understands how to promote programs, including sports and extra-curricular activities, that promote students’ positive self-image.
She also favors programs that will empower parents to get more involved. Please consider voting for Monet Borione for MAPS school board on the back of the ballot.
