To the Journal editor:

The news article describing the impending city of Marquette dire financial position is very disturbing. Yes, city services are important, however has the various department heads conducted a need analysis / efficiency study of the city services including police and fire? If that is not possible, maybe the city can contract with an independent firm to provide efficiency study.

The current city manager, if I recall, was originally from downstate Milan. She would be a great resource to secure the services of a company who can conduct a non-biased efficiency study with real recommendations.

On a side note, the financial mess the city has found itself is not a recent manifestation rather the financial mess rest at the feet of the previous administration.
