To the Journal editor:

Lake Superior is Marquette County’s greatest treasure. We live along one of the largest repositories of fresh water in the world.

As the climate changes and clean, drinkable water becomes scarcer, where will people want to live? People move here to enjoy the fresh air, clean water, and natural beauty. That appeal is going to become even stronger in coming years.

The proposed rocket launch site might financially benefit a few self-interested investors, but it’s a raw deal for the rest of us.

Selling out our clean water for a little bit of money would seem shamefully foolish in retrospect.

As far as the tired old argument that an ill-conceived rocket launch site will bring jobs, remote work is changing how people make livings in Marquette County.

The handful of jobs the rocket launch site might bring is nothing compared to the number of jobs brought by people moving here to enjoy Lake Superior.

Put rocket launch sites over salt water, you already can’t drink it. Leave Lake Superior alone.
