No election fraud

To the Journal editor:

Once again U.S. Rep. Jack Bergman, R-Watersmeet, has decided to join the conspiracy theorists, kooks and Proud Boys who are propping up (the Administration’s) effort to stay in office after losing the election. Not only did he join the Texas lawsuit to overturn the 2020 election that was rejected by the U.S. Supreme Court, but also he has now objected to the votes cast by the Electoral College.

This is not about election fraud, which has been disproved. I urge the Marquette Mining Journal to reprint the statement by Republican election official Gabriel Sterling reported in the New York Times on Jan. 4, 2021: “A Georgia election official debunked Trump’s claims of voter fraud, point by point.”

Despite touting his military credentials, Rep. Bergman does not stand with every former Secretary of Defense, all of whom choose democracy and upholding the results of the 2020 elections. Despite claiming to be a conservative, Rep. Bergman does not stand with Rep. Liz Cheney and other conservatives who see state responsibility for running elections as a fundamental principle.

While he wants us to believe that he is an honest person, Rep. Bergman is acting to legitimize the scam that is pouring millions of dollars into the president’s coffers by falsely alleging election fraud.
