To the Journal editor:

U.S. Rep. Jack Bergman, R-Watersmeet, should be held accountable for his role in Wednesday’s insurrection …. It does not take a rocket scientist to understand what was going to happen yesterday with President Trump, supported by Rep. Bergman and others, continuing to go down the path of a stolen election.

The assault on our capitol as well as many state capitals yesterday was an attempt at a coup. It is clear from his recent actions and his continued “spins” on why he was a part of supporting the insurrection, Rep. Bergman is not going to support the Constitution.

Rep. Bergman clearly violated the oath to defend our Constitution which many of us, and supposedly Rep. Bergman, took entering military service.

If Rep. Bergman has any concern for the residents of the Upper Peninsula or for the U.S., he would immediately resign his office. If not, I, for one, hope he is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law for his part in inciting the attack on our Constitution.
