Dear Rep. Bergman

To the Journal editor:

First, I would like to congratulate you on being reelected to another term in the United States House of

Representatives. I wish you all the best.

Next, I would really like to know what you believe?

Free and fair elections are the very heart and soul of our democracy and this past November our whole voting process has come under enormous scrutiny. Do you believe there was massive fraud in Michigan that changed the outcome?

Do you believe in undermining the safety and security of our elections without evidence?

Do you believe that mail-in ballots should be prohibited?

Do you believe that we should work on ways to make exercising our right to vote easier rather than more difficult?

And finally, do you believe what unites us is more important than what divides us?

My love for our country is a thousand times greater than my devotion to any one political candidate.

And I would hope that my representative in Washington D.C. feels the same.

I encourage you to champion cooperation in Congress and work to bring the two parties together to accomplish much needed reform. The affordability of healthcare, the affordability of education, economic inequality, the sustainability of Social Security, the federal deficit, climate change, racism, international terrorism…these are all issues that need our attention.

And these are all problems that can only be solved in a spirit of working cooperation.

Finger pointing, from both sides of the aisle, is corrosive and destructive.

As Lincoln said, “A house divided cannot stand.”

That is what I believe Mr. Bergman.

Now I would like to know what do you believe?
