Vets wrong on protests

To the Journal editor:

Dear “Wall of Vets Protestors” — it saddens me to hear that you’ve taken up protesting against others in uniform. You are making the same mistakes that your parents and/or grandparents made oh so many years ago. How soon we forget.

Those that served before you in military uniform were protested against for being in Vietnam. Those military members were spat at, berated, belittled, had rocks thrown at them, and had other acts of violence committed against them.

Many of these true veterans either joined to defend American interest or were drafted against their choice. But either way, they didn’t deserve to be treated the way they were by their fellow American citizens.

And now here you are discriminating against police forces everywhere. And why? Just because they wear a uniform. You cannot blame all police for the acts of a few. That would be like saying all motor vehicle operators are bad drivers because one drunk driver got behind the wheel and killed someone.

You have become what you are fighting against and you don’t see it. You are discriminating against a group of people. Shame!

There was a story in the news of a so-called Navy veteran that ran up to a federal officer defending the federal courthouse in Portland during the heat of a riot to ask the officer if he felt that he was violating the protesters rights! Really?

Did he really think that his status as a veteran gave him access to interview police officers while they were trying to qualm a riot? Shame!

It would have been like an Afghanistan citizen running up to a Marine during a live fire attack to ask the Marine if he thought he was invading their country!

When you gave your oath of enlistment you swore to defend against all enemies foreign and domestic.

I guess now that your enlistment is over, you chose not to.
