Don‘t back GOP

To the Journal editor:

Fellow citizens, have you just lost your enhanced unemployment benefits? Are you worried about feeding your family, or whether your school can educate your child safely? Did your business miss out on the Paycheck Protection Program?

The Democratically controlled House of Representatives passed the Heroes Act last May 15 to address all of these problems created by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Heroes Act includes another direct economic stimulus payment of $1,200; renews the $600/week enhanced unemployment payment; funds food, nutrition and housing programs; provides funds to state and local governments; and expands the PPP program; among other things.

Our congressman, U.S. Rep. Jack Bergman, R-Watersmeet, voted no!

The economy just shrank 33% last quarter and over a million people continue to lose their jobs each week. Meanwhile, Senate Republicans dawdled and dragged their feet until these programs expired, then left town.

They hope to use your suffering as leverage to defund Social Security, further deregulate big banks, relieve employers of COVID-19 liability and build a new FBI building near Trump Tower.

The “Greatest Deal-maker” continues to play golf as Republicans show they have lost both the will and ability to govern.

Republicans, including Jack Bergman, don’t care about you. They don’t deserve your vote in November.
