To the Journal editor:

As a retired educator from the Negaunee Public Schools, I read with interest the Mining Journal article of Friday, July 10, describing the need for the proposed 0.99 millage increase request. I strongly encourage the citizens of Negaunee to support this.

In the past, Negaunee School District voters have been supportive of initiatives that improve the learning environment of the entire student body including building infrastructure, new and long standing educational innovations, technology, the fine arts, and athletics.

It is important to point out that this proposal when approved will touch every aspect of the educational process from the youngest to the oldest students and those that care for them. The custodians, food services, classroom aides, teaching staff, and administration will all be affected with this positive advancement. In addition it will be of benefit to those students, coaches, and teachers who are involved in athletics as well as the fine arts.

I know from personal experience that the voting residents of the Negaunee School District support the education of the whole child and I trust you will continue to do so. Please vote yes on the Negaunee Public Schools Bond Proposal on Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2020!
