Bergman, Trump deserve thanks

To the Journal editor:

Last week, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced that construction of a new lock at Sault Ste. Marie was underway and even posted a video on Facebook of the construction equipment arriving via barge.

This is a project that has been talked about longer than I have been alive. It’s hard to fathom the economic significance of this project. An unexpected shutdown would cost up to 11 million plus jobs in the United States.

U.S. Rep. Bergman, R-Watersmeet, has made this a top priority since his very first campaign in 2016. After taking office he has been proactively pressuring the bureaucrats to cut through the nonsense and get this project going.

He even brought this priority up to President Trump a year ago, and the president promised his support. These are the infrastructure projects that will drive the future for my generation and the next.

We should all be proud of Rep. Bergman and President Trump for fighting for the Upper Peninsula.
