HR 763 should be supported

To the Journal editor:

It was wonderful to hear in the article by Journal staff writer, Jackie Jahfetson, that Graveraet has switched from disposable straws to reusable stainless steel.

This trend went viral the images of plastic straws getting caught in the noses of sea turtles attracted the attention of celebrities like Ellen DeGeneres, who vowed to give up single-use straws.

A popular movement is also building to solve the climate crisis. The solution, however, is not as obvious.

With a slew of policies introduced in Congress, it is critical to urge for passage of the policy that will drive down carbon dioxide pollution while protecting Americans from rising prices.

Lawmakers like U.S. Rep. Jack Bergman, R-Watersmeet, and U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow, D-Ann Arbor, both members of their chamber’s bipartisan Climate Solutions Caucus, need to hear from all constituents.

Empower yourself with the basics of climate advocacy by attending a workshop to train volunteers on Saturday, March 21, 2-4 p.m. Marquette’s Lakeview Arena, Citizens Forum Room. Please register at marquettecaw. eventbrite.com.

Whether you attend or not, please consider signing up for the monthly campaign to call Congress where you will receive a sample script via text or email to urge Congress’ support of House Resolution 763 at cclcalls.org

Sincerely,

HANNAH LANTZ
