Redmen/Redettes should remain

To the Journal editor:

I’ve been a Champion Indian for approximately 93 years. I’m almost 98 years old and I played for the Champion Indians from 1938-40.

Never did we feel we were demeaning Indians with our mascot. We were proud to be the Champion Indians and having an Indian mascot.

I think this whole conversation about the use of these and similar names as being racially motivated is pure malarkey! It’s time to stop being such pantywaists and speak up and make yourselves heard.

Speaking of minorities, don’t let a small group which is way in the minority change what has always been. Marquette has been the Redmen/Redettes for 75 years. Keep them the Redmen/Redettes!

That’s how I feel.
