To the Journal editor:

My husband and I were very surprised and dismayed to find that when we rode out to Presque Isle on Oct. 16, to watch the waves on the lake that the island was closed. We are lifelong residents of Marquette and one of our great joys is our beautiful lake.

Witnessing first-hand the awesome power of our Lake Superior during a storm is something to look forward to, particularly this time of year.

This has never been denied us before. I realize that individuals in the past have not always acted with good judgement in this regard, but my overwhelming feeling (and I venture to say others probably will agree with me) is that our city is going a little overboard trying to protect us from ourselves!
