Good advice given

To the Journal editor:

I hope most of the people would agree we had a pretty nice summer compared to other parts of the country. Lots of rain and flooding. Also hot temps in parts of the U.S.

Lots of building going on around Marquette. I hope it doesn’t get too big of a city. I was stationed at Traverse City from 1964-66 in the U.S. Coast Guard.

It was a nice small town. I’ve heard it is not the same. More people, traffic, crime, etc. That happens when cities get bigger. Also you lose some of the beauty, less trees, open fields, etc.

Lucky the city of Marquette has the beauty of Park Cemetery. Quiet area, water ponds, ducks to see and most of all very few cars and no dogs. I visit there often to see my wife and other family members who are buried there. Thanks to the city for taking good care of it.

Just a note on traffic and cars. It’s getting dangerous out there on the roads. Recently I have had two trucks pass on a yellow line on M-28 going about 75 mph. Lucky no cars coming the other way. I believe I would have been killed if I did not move off to the side of the road and six more cars went by me.

Lucky I don’t have to be driving to work. Also the roundabouts. One has to be alert. Sometimes people don’t yield when they should. I don’t think it will get any better.

Raising the speed limit to 65 on a two-lane road is not good. Most people do 70 to 75 mph. I’m glad I’m not traveling on the interstate highways. Usually they are going 80-90 mph. Big hurry to wherever. It was nice when the speed limit was 55 mph and people were not speeding like today.

In conclusion I would advise people to watch out and would hope people would just slow down and enjoy life and just possibly you might save your own life.

I’m hopeful I don’t get killed driving on the dangerous roads and speeding traffic. With winter coming the roads will be more dangerous. Please slow down.
