Gives silent thanks

To the Journal editor:

Driving west through Marquette I see something magnificent come into view against the sky. There she is again! A huge American flag waving in the wind. The sight of it never fails to lift my spirit. There is a graceful beauty to its slowly billowing folds of red, white and blue.

No matter the weather or the time of day, should the sun be rising over our great lake, or setting low on the other side, our nation’s great banner still beckons us to remember.

When I see those stars and stripes waving to me, I always silently say “thank you” to whomever raised that glorious flag that so effectively reminds me again what is required of someone else for me to live here in this amazing land, and that there is no other place on Earth I would rather be.
